German wind turbine maker Enercon has commenced construction on the 845MW second phase of the Markbygden wind complex in Sweden.

Located in the municipality of Piteå, in the Northern Swedish province of Norrbotten, the project, which is renamed as Maximus, will feature 201 units of E-138 EP3 turbines.

Enercon said that it is also seeking investors in the project, which is planned to be fully commissioned by mid-2021.

In 2017, Enercon made the investment decision for the project and also signed a construction agreement for the transformer station with Swedish grid operator Svenska Kraftnät.

The 1,300MW transformer station in Trolltjarn will be connected directly to the 400kV grid. It will have the capacity to transfer approximately 2,000GWh of electricity generated by the wind park annually to consumers in Sweden.

Enercon managing director Hans-Dieter Kettwig said: “We are ready to market the project. We are convinced to find reliable partners who are interested in a long-term operation of the wind farm. The interest of potential investors is definitely there as we have learnt in previous projects in Sweden.”

DNB has been appointed as advisor for the equity and power purchase agreement, while Nord/LB’s structured finance team will be the advisory partner for debt financing. Cirio is Enercon’s legal advisor.

Power generation at the wind farm will commence as soon as the grid connection is available, which is scheduled by mid-2020.

The firm has earlier installed its first new low wind speed EP3 model at Wieringermeer wind energy test site in the Netherlands.

Sweden is one of the core international markets of Enercon. The company has established its own supply chain in Sweden, with production partners and a large service organisation.
