Doosan secures power plant construction in New Caledonia

Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co., a South Korean company has secured $120 million worth power plant construction contract in New Caledonia.

Under this contract, Doosan Heavy will construct power plant for the Switzerland-based nickel mining company Xstrata. Electricity produced by this 270-megawatt power plant will be supplied to a nickel mine which is being developed in Koniambo. Koniambo is 350 kilometers northwest of Noumea, the capital city of New Caledonia. This contract will allow Doosan Heavy to receive increased costs of raw materials and labor, separately from the contracted fees. This power plant project is expected to complete by July 2012. Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co., Ltd. is a Korean heavy industries company established in 1962. The company’s business ranges from nuclear power plants, thermal power plants, turbines and generators, desalination plants, castings and forgings to construction.
