Published: 12-Mar-2010
Crossrail will announce full tender documents for the main tunnel boring machine (TBM) tunnel packages on GBP15.9 billion ($23.7 billion) Crossrail scheme in the next few weeks as the project presses forward with main works procurement.
According to sources Andy Mitchell, Program director has confirmed that short listed contractors would be invited to tender for package C300 for the western running tunnels on 26 March and the deal would be worth hundreds of millions of pounds.
Crossrail is inviting bids for Package C305 for the eastern running tunnels on April 9, 2010. C305, at roughly twice the size of C300 is likely to be the biggest single contract let on the project.
Five consortiums were short listed for both packages in December including: a joint venture of Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering Limited, Morgan Est, Vinci Construction Grand Projects and Beton-und Monierbau Gesellschaft; a joint venture comprising Bam Nuttall, Ferrovial Agroman (UK) and Kier Construction; a joint venture comprising Costain, Skanska Construction UK and Bilfinger Berger Civil; a joint venture comprising Dragados and John Sisk & Son; and a joint venture comprising Laing O’Rourke Construction and Bouygues Travaux Publics.
Contractors would be expected to demonstrate how they will drive down costs on the project. Crossrail is still looking to working closely with winning consortia to improve the design.
