Britannia Construction continues work on Cheltenham tunnel in UK
31 January 2012UK-based Britannia Construction has announced that it is continuing work on £1 million ($1.5 million) tunnel in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, UK.
The 85m tunnel, which spans from one side of the road to the other at Runnings Road in Cheltenham, comprises a vehicle thoroughfare 3m wide x 2.5m high with a pedestrian tunnel running alongside it. Ramps have been used to slope down from ground level to a depth of 5m on each of the two sites, clearing existing mains services and highways drainage, with the two then connected to create through access. The new tunnel, which has just been installed, passes underneath highways drainage, gas and water mains, as well as high voltage cables. The culverts have been designed to provide a waterproofed tunnel for Spirax Sarco to install lighting and sprinklers later. Britannia has appointed two specialist civil engineers for the development of two operating sites, located either side of a busy highway.
