BIFM celebrates website launch at Sustainability in FM in UK
2 July 2010The British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) has celebrated the launch of its website at the ‘Sustainability in FM’ event at the British Museum in London.
The website is a partnership between BIFM and the University of Reading and is an initiative of the BIFM Sustainability Special Interest Group. The website provides a tool that illustrates good practices through practical examples, descriptions of sustainability issues, reflections of lessons learnt and links to centers of excellence. The evening kicked off with an introduction given by Steve Gill, director of visitor and building services at the British Museum, the second largest museum in the world. He explained how they had managed to reduce its carbon footprint by 30% over the last four years, and how 80% of its waste is now recycled. The .event also featured various keynote speakers who stresses on the importance of sustainability in FM. Founded in 1993, BIFM provides information, education, training and networking services for over 12,000 members – both individual professionals and organizations. BIFM is the home’ of facilities management in the UK.
