BDP designs University College Falmouth’s AIR facility
Published: 08-Feb-2010
UK-based international architectural firm, Building Design Partnership (BDP), is designing the Academy for Innovation and Research (AIR) for University College Falmouth, on the campus of the Combined Universities in Cornwall, Tremough, UK.
AIR is a major new initiative aimed at increasing the impact of University College Falmouth’s research and enterprise upon the creative industries and supporting the growth of the wider economy in Cornwall.
BDP Bristol office’s solution provides a large, flexible, two level space under a gently curved green roof which springs from the sloping site with the section providing spectacular views across the Cornish countryside from within. The building is sited in a very prominent position above the approach road to the campus and is designed to become a beacon for the university. The overall cost of construction is GBP2.4 million ($3.8 million approx).
BDP is currently at stage D on the Environmental and Sustainability Institute (ESI) on the same site so this marks an important further win for the Bristol office with an established university client.
