BAM Nuttall wins contracts worth $120 million to transform London Olympic site
3 February 2012UK-based construction company BAM Nuttall Limited has secured two contracts worth £76 million ($120.4 million) to transform the London Olympic site into a park and residential area with completion of the Games.
The park, which will be renamed by the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park once the athletes have gone home, will include a mixture of elite sports stadiums, housing and community facilities such as a school and medical centre. BAM Nuttall will clear temporary stadiums, including basketball and water polo, double the amount of parkland, reconfigure Games-time bridges and underpasses, and link the park to surrounding communities as part of the new phase called 'Clear, Connect, Complete'. The company will also create the media centre and handball arena for new tenants, and work on the velopark by creating a mountain-bike trail and outdoor cycle circuit. Work on the project is expected to take 18 month, while the park is scheduled to be reopened in phases from July 2013.
