Amazon to construct $5bn second HQ in US

Online retail giant Amazon is searching for a new site to build its second North American corporate headquarters with an investment of more than $5bn.

Hunt for the prime location has started and the company is soliciting proposals for the new campus to fuel its future growth.

It is believed that a number of cities, such as Dallas, Houston, Toronto, St. Louis, Kentucky and Miami will compete to grab Amazon’s billion dollars project.

The proposed campus will be a full equal to Amazon’s current campus in Seattle. It will create approximately 50,000 jobs.

Amazon is planning new base as its existing headquarters is brimming with nearly 40,000 employs.

The second North American base will not only enable Amazon to reduce operational costs but also to reduce risks associated with operations.

Amazon said that its investments in its Seattle headquarters operations from 2010 up to 2016 resulted in an additional $38bn to the city's economy.
