Adama wind power project in Ethiopia nearing completion

Work is nearing completion on the Adama wind power project in Ethiopia which involves an investment of $117 million.

The wind turbines project was started in June 2011. The wind farm will have a capacity of 51MW and is equipped with a total of 34 wind turbines with each turbine generating 1.5MW. Foundation work for the 34 towers has been completed with 25 towers already having been installed. Chinese Import-Export Bank has provided 85% of the loan required by the project. The Ethiopian government is funding the remaining portion. Hydro China has executed mechanical work for the Adama Project while Chinese contractor CGOC was in charge of civil work. Hydro China is preparing to commence test runs on the wind farm with an output of 15MW. The farm will begin full operations in June. The Adama wind project is being connected by a 33KV transmission line while an additional 4.5km, 132KV line is under construction. The substation has been completed.
